Metroid 2 fan remake game
AM2R - Another Metroid 2 Remake is a free adventure title for PC created by indie developer Milton Guasti, who also goes by DoctorM64. It is a fan remake of the classic Metroid II: Return of Samus action-platformer for the Nintendo Game Boy. It introduces new features to the original, including additional levels and enemies.
Much like the Castlevania Anniversary Collection or The Last Faith, AM2R - Another Metroid 2 Remake stays true to the original experience that combines fast-paced action with open-world exploration and platforming. It offers a new way to experience the cult classic that many fans have been wanting for a long time.
A reimagined classic
The Metroid franchise is one of the most popular and influential game series ever. It set the standard for what open-world action-platformer games should be, and with the Castlevania series, gave birth to a sub-genre called Metroidvania. In particular, Metroid II: Return of Samus is a fan favorite, and many have been pining for a remake. Enter AM2R - Another Metroid 2 Remake to fill the void.
What makes this remake special is it's made in the art style of another popular Metroid game, namely Metroid: Zero Missions. What's more, it even brings in more content on top of the base game with new levels and more challenging enemies. It even introduces new skills like wall jumps and ledge grabs employed in later releases in the series.
Other thoughtful changes and additions include a new map system to help with exploration, as well as adjusted controls to make the feeling of controlling Samus more precise and less "floaty." As alluded to earlier, this is an unofficial remake that is not officially supported by Nintendo or the original developers. As such, it does not reflect or carry the series' sentiments or intentions.
Going above and beyond
Put simply, AM2R - Another Metroid 2 Remake is an impressive remake of the original and then some. Not only did it update the graphics with a new art style, but it also incorporated features and mechanics from other Metroid games to enhance the gameplay experience overall. If you're a fan of the series, this is a must-play and is definitely worth checking out.
